Tokyo, Kanagawa and Chiba prefectures rose while Saitama declined with Osaka Prefecture printing the most aggressive rent rise.
On March 17th, Tokyo Kantei released monthly rents for condominiums in Japan’s three major metropolitan areas for February of 2022.
The figures were calculated by converting asking rents for condominiums leased into rents per square meter.

The average condo rent in the Greater Tokyo Area (GTA) area was ¥3,366, up 2.1% Month-on-Month (MoM), the first increase in four months.
The GTA consists of Tokyo, Saitama, Chiba and Kanagawa prefectures.
Broken down by prefecture, average condo rent in Tokyo Prefecture rose for the second consecutive month to 3,799 yen (up 1.8% MoM).
While Saitama Prefecture declined to an average of 1,835 yen per sqm (down 1.1% MoM), Kanagawa and Chiba prefectures rose to an avg. of 2,417 yen (up 1.4% MoM) and 1,836 yen (up 2.3% MoM) respectively.
In the Greater Osaka (Kinki) region, the Osaka area led the way, rising 2,075 yen (up 2.9% MoM).
The average rent in Osaka Prefecture, where the number of recently built properties increased, rose sharply to 2,316 yen (up 4.0% MoM). Hyogo Prefecture rose to 1,695 yen (up 0.5% MoM).
The Greater Nagoya (Chubu) region rose to an average rent of 1,963 yen (up 2.5%).
Aichi Prefecture also saw an average rent rise for the fourth consecutive month to 2,000 yen (up 2.7% MoM).
